Virginia Green Grocer is a USDA certified organic farm growing vegetables and
herbs year-round. Many are rare heirloom varieties, chosen for exceptional
flavor, and due to our organic mineral rich soils with higher nutritional value.
In addition, there are no pesticide or other chemical residues.
The
Virginia Organic Co-operative is an extension of the farm and hosts the annual
CSA. We are signing up members for CSA 2009 Summer The Virginia Green Grocer is
a certified organic farmer who produces a wide variety of vegetables and herbs
year-round. The species are selected for flavor, scent, color, and productivity
in the Virginia piedmont climate. Fusing traditional organic methods with modern
"green" technology enables us to have the best of both worlds by enhancing
bio-sustainable agricultural practices and providing a model applicable to the
small family. By producing locally here in northern Virginia, we cut out the
energy and time expense of transportation from places like California or Mexico.
That means that with the exception of a few items like potatoes and carrots
which store well, we harvest, pack and deliver vegetables to your door within 48
hours.
One share is designed to provide the weekly vegetable needs
for a family of four. A Half Share is ideal for couples. As our production
increases: fruit, meat, eggs and dairy products will also be available through
our CSA. Our CSA members receive a box of 6-8 fresh, locally-grown, organic
produce once a week from late spring through early fall. Winter shares with
items from the freezer and the greenhouse will hopefully be available this fall.
