The Fund for Animals was founded in 1967 by prominent author and animal
advocate, Cleveland Amory, and has spearheaded some of the most historic
and
significant events in the history of the animal protection movement. With its
merger in 2005 with the Humane Society of the United States, The Fund is one of
the largest and most active organizations working
for the cause of animals
throughout the world. It oversees four animal care facilities such as the
world-famous Black Beauty Ranch in Texas, a sanctuary for animals established by
Cleveland Amory in 1979 after his famous rescue of 577 burros from the Grand
Canyon. Its wildlife rehabilitation centers in California and Massachusetts care
for hundreds of birds, mammals and reptiles every year, and its Rabbit Sanctuary
in South Carolina provides permanent homes for domestic rabbits.
