There is pasture to run , two ponds to swim in, timber to investigate and all
sorts good smells for dogs that have spent their lives chained or in small,
dirty pens.
Dog Star exists to provide a refuge for dogs and other
animals with special needs: the old, the sick, blind, the disabled, and dogs
with behavior problems--we want the unwanted.
The sanctuary gives these
individuals a place to live out their lives in dignity, comfort and community
with other animals and people.
There's magic in a click! Studies have
shown the main reason dogs are given up to shelters or dumped on country roads
are behavior problems that are usually easy to fix.
An important part of
our program is training and education for dogs and people.
We teach a
gentle, fun method called clicker training. No force or fear is involved; it’s
quick and easy to learn.
Our adoptable dogs are trained before they
leave us so they stay in their new homes.
