Our Shelter, located in Bennett, Colorado, is a non-profit Colorado corporation
and 501(c)(c) federal tax exempt charity. Our goal is to provide permanent
homes for donkeys that would otherwise be neglected, abused, or destroyed for
meat consumption overseas. All males are castrated and the females (jennets) are
NOT allowed to be used for breeding. All the donkeys are dewormed, vaccinated,
castrated if needed, and trained in leading, haltering, trailer training, and
hoof work, and many times other things.Donkeys are kept at the shelter as long
as needed, and some remain forever in sanctuary status. All donkeys have access
of up to 40+ acres of pasture, plus clean corrals, plenty of shelter, dry grass
hay, automatic waterers, toys and lots of love. Donkeys with other dietary needs
get grain and supplements. Many active volunteers help Longhopes thrive. All the
donkeys get lots of love and attention from us. We usually only adopt out our
donkeys in pairs or to live with other donkeys. We love our longears!
