Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts will present, for the third
year, its very successful Organic Gardening and Simple Food program. The
nationally acclaimed summer arts day camp teaches students in grades 4-12 how to
grow and cook simple food. There are guest gardeners and chefs and a Farmers
Market at the end of the summer season. Usdan Center, in the Huntington area of
Long Island, annually hosts more than 1600 students from throughout the New York
area. There is a huge hillside garden and farm set aside for the Organic
Gardening program. The 2012 season, its 45th, begins in June for 4 and 7-week
programs. Students are transported by air-conditioned buses, and about one-third
attend on scholarship. Open Houses, which begin October 23 (from 11 AM to 2 PM),
give families full information on Usdan programs, and a tour of the magnificent
200-acre woodland campus.
