The Toronto Vegetarian Association is a volunteer-driven, charitable
organization committed to educating people about the benefits of a vegetarian
diet, supporting those who wish to eliminate their consumption of animal
products and celebrating the diversity of vegetarian food and culture.
The Toronto Vegetarian Association hosts the Annual Vegetarian Food
Fair, the largest event of its kind in North America. Held in Toronto over the
second weekend of September, the Food Fair offers visitors a great opportunity
to learn about vegetarian issues and to sample delicious vegetarian cuisine.
TVA publishes an informative website, veg.ca and a Vegetarian
Directory, which lists vegetarian restaurants, health food stores and other
businesses. The organization coordinates the Veggie Challenge campaign, which
helps people try a vegetarian or vegan diet for one week. Another important need
is met by the TVA Resource Centre which offers a variety of books, cookbooks,
magazines, DVDs and videos.
