Shiatsu is a popular folk remedy in Japan, where I am from. My grandmother was
an acupuncturist and a pharmacist/practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine
(for people), and I am familiar with the concept of non-Western medicine and
holistic wellness. In fact, my little toy poodle named Sandy enjoyed occasional
shiatsu sessions, and lived up to be 18 years old!
I have been studying
various ways to keep our canine companions healthy and well, and I went to Ohio
to receive formal, hands-on training in canine massage from Jonathan Rudinger,
the founder of the PetMassage Institute. Kiki, my dear rescued Siberian Husky,
traveled with me to serve as my practice dog. I also attended small animal
acupressure courses offered by the Tallgrass Animal Acupressure, and plan to
continue with further training at both institutions.
