Lakeplain Prairie Organic Farm began as a community-supported agricultural farm
serving 30 families. Certified organic vegetables were produced and shared
between the member families. Vandalia Gardens Farm Cooperative will launch
spring of 2009. This altruistic, educational venture will involve participants
from several urban agricultural groups, including Vandalia Gardens Urban
Farmers, LLC, Lakeplain Prairie Farm, and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen�s Earthworks
Urban Farm. Cornelious Williams and Leslie Huffman are at the forefront of the
urban farming movement.
Capuchin Soup Kitchen (CSK) Earth Works Garden will
be working with the farmers to schedule field trips for youth, and guests of the
CSK for overall experiential opportunities at the farm. A portion of the harvest
will be shared with the CSK to feed the hungry.
