COMMENT from John Stein   on Jun 28, 2011    Eco Brooklyn is by far the most cutting edge contractor firm I have worked with. I hired them to install a green roof on my Park Slope brownstone and was so impressed by everything about them. They are passionate about "turning NY green" and it shows in the way they salvage almost everything and do their best to increase the ecology of the job. From there I hired them to renovate our kitchen which was in bad need of an update. They did the whole thing - design, custom build, install. The kitchen looks amazing and it is totally free of chemicals. I can't say how great Eco Brooklyn is. They truly walk their talk. Really a positive force in this world. Post (and email) a response

COMMENT from Richard   on Nov 24, 2010    have you ever considered bamboo flooring? bamboo is environmently-friendly and sustainable products, it's even harder and stronger than hardwoods floors, and prices are much lower. Post (and email) a response RESPONSE: Jun 28, 2011  from Gennaro Brooks-Church    Bamboo is environmentally friendly because it is basically a weed and grows very quickly. BUT most bamboo comes from China. So you have to ship it across the world, which is not very eco friendly. Also a lot of forests are being stripped to make room for the lucrative bamboo industry, again not very eco friendly. They also use chemicals to make the bamboo grow faster. They also put formaldehyde in the bamboo flooring, which causes cancer. So....yes environmentally friendly bamboo is green. But the generic bamboo is not that great. The best is salvaged flooring. After that is ecologically harvested wood and bamboo.
