Houston needed a resource for artists, crafters, steampunkers and educators in
search of high quality reclaimed materials. The Texas Art Asylum offers an
ever-changing inventory of items to inspire creative reuse.
Part crafts
supply store, part thrift store, part salvage yard and part antique store, our
inventory is collected from businesses, institutions and individuals who
recognize that their materials are suitable for reuse, repurposing or upcycling.
A partial list of our current inventory -- art supplies, fabric, yarn,
vintage planters, needlepoint kits, latch hook kits, old law books, sheet music,
old toys, railroad spikes, costume jewelry (whole and broken), office supplies,
rusty hardware, zippers, glass and bone beads, vintage hats and hankies, bottle
caps, pressure gauges, cigar boxes, leather, holiday decorations, buttons,
thread, valentines, giant wooden spools, darning eggs, crayons, pieces of an old
tin roof, and old porcelain, composite, and plastic dolls and doll parts.
