As a DONA (Doulas of North America) certified birth doula, I provide physical
support and comfort measures, as well as emotional support and reassurance. I
also help parents gather the necessary information to make informed decisions
about their own care and that of their babies. I remain with the laboring woman
throughout the entire labor, unless she requests privacy, in which case I wait
nearby until I am needed. One of my main goals is to help mothers and fathers
feel satisfied with their birth experience. The birth of a child is one of only
a few key life events, and should be treated with respect and compassion.
