Since 1994, the Holcomb Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project has helped
address issues of environmental justice and economic justice by growing fresh produce for
a reduced fee for 1500 low-income Hartford residents. Another 200 Hartford area
households purchase full-cost memberships. For 20 weeks from June through October, members
receive a weekly supply of freshly harvested vegetables and fruit. Member surveys
determine the mix of the CSA’s 50 crop varieties, which are cultivated without pesticides
or herbicides.
