I use hemp to craft lacrosse mesh kits. Regular lacrosse strings are made from
nylon, which is a derivative of petroleum. Hemp is the world's strongest natural
fiber, so it is not surprising that it works great for lacrosse mesh.It performs
just as well as the mainstream stringing kits, but has some added benefits as
well. It is actually netting, not a single piece of mesh like the kits made by
brine and stx. I net them by hand, which results in a knotted mesh. As the
pocket breaks in, the knots get a little tighter where the pocket forms. Another
benefit of hemp over nylon is that the nylon warps in UV rays. Over a couple of
seasons in the outdoors, the mesh will become distorted from the exposure to
sunlight. I also dye the hemp with fiber reactive dyes which results in
brilliant colors. The dye actually becomes chemically bonded to the hemp fibers.
