The Chickens we raise are all Heritage Breeds. Our laying hens are Buff
Orpingtons, Welsummers and Barnevelders. These breeds are beautiful and hardy
but lay fewer eggs than the commercial type breeds that have been hybridized for
laying the maximum number of eggs while consuming the least amount of feed.
How
we Care for our chickens is costly in a number of ways. First, we allow our
chickens to FREE RANGE our 20 acres. Our birds help themselves to as much green
grass and as many bugs as they can find. We also feed our birds SOY FREE,
ORGANIC feed from Countryside Naturals located in Fishersville, Virginia. We
pay to have the very best feed available shipped into our farm.
Why do we
insist omitting Soy from our layer feed? Soy products are harmful to chickens
and humans. Studies have shown that soy can have damaging effects on the human
body, even causing cancer cells to grow. ALL eggs bought from the grocery store
contain a tremendous amount of soy (even organic eggs).
